MAFC’s Shane Magee awarded Dean’s Award for Curriculum Innovation

1 June 2015

Macquarie Applied Finance Centre is thrilled to announce one of our senior lecturers, Dr Shane Magee, has been recognised for his work in redesigning the Master of Applied Finance and was awarded a prestigious Dean’s Excellence Award in Curriculum Innovation at a ceremony on 13 May.

Dr Magee led the project to introduce four new innovative online subjects for the Master of Applied Finance: Finance Principles, Case Studies in Applied Finance, Quantitative & Economic Analysis, Financial Statement Analysis and Modelling. These subjects also make up the curriculum for the brand new Graduate Certificate of Finance.

With support from Macquarie University’s Learning and Teaching Centre, the introduction of these new subjects provide a pathway for students who don’t have a background in finance and gives them a strong foundation of applied finance knowledge.

This is the first time MAFC has offered any of its subjects online. Dr Magee was fundamental in designing the subjects so they were highly engaging, practical and applicable for students.

Initial feedback from students on these new subjects has been very positive and the MAFC team will continue to work more in this area to improve the learning experiences for students, with more video content and open discussion groups to get involved with.

Please join us in congratulating Dr Magee for his outstanding work and his achievement.

Congratulations Dr Shane Magee
